Blog by placement student Grace Eastell:
I am currently five months into my nine-month interior design placement, between my second and third years at Nottingham Trent University.
Kinnersley Kent Design is a fantastic place to intern. The London studio is located in the scenic Fitzroy Square, and everyone works alongside each other in a beautiful period building.
A unique thing about interning at KKD is the level of involvement you are given in the design work. From the very start of my placement I've been working on a range of different projects doing different things, from office spaces in London to department stores in Beirut. I recently helped design a project in the Middle East, working from concept, research and materials through to designing and detailing, which is very exciting. When I first began my placement I had limited knowledge of the software I would be using, however I'm quickly picking up the skills I need with assistance from the other designers, who are always willing to set aside time to help out.
Another great aspect of working at KKD is the social side. I've been able to attend lots of events during my five months here, at various showrooms, galleries and studios around London. This has allowed me to see a vast range of the latest design products and spaces, and spend time getting to know my colleagues while enjoying some nice food and drink! I was also lucky enough to go to KKD’s annual Christmas party.
I’ve found that KKD is a great a place to learn invaluable design skills, while working on exciting projects alongside an inclusive, friendly team.
We are currently recruiting for our next talented placement student to join our interiors team. If you're interested please see the role description and send a cover letter, CV and some examples of your work to emma.d @kkd.co.uk by 16th February.
