Sometimes, when not working to a brief or deadline, it can be refreshing to try something new and challenge your mind creatively. Not only does it force you out of your comfort zone but we find it also helps view your work with a new perspective, helping you improve.
It’s for this reason that some of our team recently took part in a Food Photography & Styling Workshop with lifestyle photographer Chio Fernandez and Fujifilm. Aimed at beginners and enthusiasts the day consisted of learning how to use the Fujifilm X-E3 mirrorless camera with a range of lenses, and incorporating various props and ingredients to tell a story with our images.
Given the time of year the shoot was Halloween themed, which added to the fun as we photographed spiced teas, pumpkin soup and a variety of seasonal treats under Chio’s guidance. It also helped that the shoot location was a stunning West London Victorian residence with a modern concrete kitchen straight out of Pinterest heaven (see more on the KKD Instagram).
The workshop itself was relaxed, informative and thoroughly enjoyable. We walked away feeling inspired, with some new and applicable skills in storytelling for design. A morning, we consider, well spent.
