I started my placement here at Kinnersley Kent Design in October 2015. As a BA Interior Architecture undergraduate at Middlesex University, I opted for a 6-month placement between my second and third years.
To me this has been time well invested, and I would highly recommend everyone doing a creative degree to take some time out in the real design world to experience and learn as much as possible from the best professional agencies around.
My 6 months at KKD has taught me more than I ever thought I would learn. Part of my role is being responsible for looking after the materials library. This proved invaluable – I now have real-life experience with architectural materials applied to different environments. As part of my remit I was given the opportunity to meet suppliers and try out my own ideas and material choices.
KKD has given me the opportunity to participate in several exciting live projects around the world; some of the tasks have been to work on technical drawings, sketching and choosing materials and palettes in all different stages of a project. I have gained lots of valuable experience in using Photoshop, InDesign and Vectorworks.
I have been fortunate to participate and contribute to many projects at KKD. This has given me both the experience and insight on how projects are run from start to finish – from the initial research stages, through to design development and design detail. I have contributed to the presentations and experienced first hand the stress and satisfaction of delivering to an important deadline.
Kinnersley Kent Design is a great place to extend your interior design knowledge. The renowned studio has many highly skilled designers that generously share their knowledge and experience. The work environment is vibrant, friendly and inclusive. I’m very grateful for my time here and exited to utilise the inspiration and experience in my coming projects back at the university.
Thank you so much to everyone at the studio in 5 Fitzroy Square!
